One can identify many skin challenges with a Skin Skanner. See dry skin show up as violet while colors such as brown can indicate pigmentation and even sun damage.

This photo was taken with a digital camera looking through the viewport of the Skin Skanner. The Skin Scope is similar. It is possible to make a simple photo/picture for your office files to help you with a diagnosis.

Seen in the photos is the Skin Scope The unit is a fully self contained unit to view a patient's face under UVA (365 nm) Black Light. The unit has four UVA lamps (See photo below) to illuminate the face. The viewport (center of photo) is the port where you the clinician look through at the patient's face.

Ultraviolet light, particularly UVA light at roughly 365 nm allows certain chemicals, fungi and other materials to fluoresce. Fluorescence is the effect where mateials give off light at a certain wavelength when exited by in this case UV light. Normal "healthy skin" does not fluoresce under UV light whereas sun damaged skin, oily skin and very dry skin do tend to fluoresce. The skin care professional will need to become familiar with the effects of UVA light on the clients skin. In short order, the user can become very proficient with the Skin Scope or Skin Skanner. As a skin care professional you will be able to make recommendation to help your client clear up these challenges and problems.
